5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF)
5-HMF is a biomass-derived furan platform chemical obtained by dehydrating hexoses. It is an intermediate rather than an end-use polymer: oxidation leads to FDCA, and other routes give solvents, fuels, and fine chemicals.
