Expandable Polystyrene (EPS)
EPS (expandable polystyrene) is polystyrene bead that contains a blowing agent, typically pentane, so it can be pre-expanded with steam and molded into a lightweight closed-cell foam. The foam gives thermal insulation and cushioning at a much lower density than solid GPPS or HIPS.
Industry Applications
Building insulation board, protective packaging and cushioning, fish boxes and cold-chain containers, disposable food service, and shape-molded foam parts. Solid crystal and impact polystyrene are listed as GPPS and HIPS.
