Pentaerythritol
Pentaerythritol is a tetrafunctional polyol, 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)propane-1,3-diol, made from acetaldehyde and formaldehyde. It is a white crystalline solid and the polyol core for alkyd resins, rosin esters, and synthetic polyol esters. Mono and technical grades differ mainly in dipentaerythritol content.
Industry Applications
Alkyd and other coating resins, rosin-ester tackifiers, synthetic lubricant esters, and plasticizer or intumescent intermediates. Mono versus technical grade is confirmed at inquiry.
