Polyethylene 2,5-furandicarboxylate
Product Overview
Polyethylene 2,5-furandicarboxylate (PEF), also known as poly(ethylene 2,5-furandicarboxylate) or polyethylene furanoate, CAS 28728-19-0, is a bio-based polyester supplied as light yellow to white granules for polymerization and advanced materials applications.
Technical Specifications
This grade shows intrinsic viscosity (IV) 0.6–0.75 dL/g and diethylene glycol (DEG) 1.5–3.0%. Color metrics (b < 10, a < 3, L 40–60), low ash (≤0.1%), and clean sensory characteristics support high-quality processing.

Applications
PEF is studied and commercialized as a renewable alternative to poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) for packaging, films, and fibers; the furan-based polyester backbone is associated with strong gas-barrier performance versus PET in many studies, supporting shelf-life–sensitive containers and barrier structures.
